About the artist

Hayley Helmreich is a fibre and tapestry artist who is based in NYC. Hayley is a native New Yorker, who accidentally spent 30 years on the west coast. She spent over 25 years in Los Angeles, arriving in 1998 by way of Seattle. She spent 20+ years working in the TV and Film industry, when in 2016 she took a weaving workshop on a whim...

Hayley took to weaving like a fish to water...and within six months of learning tapestry weaving she converted a bedroom in her home to a studio, had six looms (she now has over close to twenty including a Saori loom...) and was on making things on a daily basis. Working with fibre became a new way of processing life and the world and Hayley never looked back at producing. She had become fibre obsessed.

Within a year, Hayley was selling her tapestries online and at a shop in Pasadena. In 2019, she added the Wanderlust Pillow to her collection and in an instant they started flying out of the studio! Functional Design has become Hayley's favorite way to share her tapestries.

Hayley is inspired by feminist fibre artists such as Sheila Hicks, Meghan Shimek, Erin M. Riley, Maryanne Moodie and Faith Ringgold. Hayley's favorite museum is the Isabella Gardner museum in Boston MA
